The HMS Victory played a critical part in the British victory over the combined French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar. It was the flagship of Admiral Horatio Nelson, a legendary British naval leader, who famously led the British fleet. The ship played a critical role in the battle, with its flags famously carrying the signal "England expects that every man will do his duty". Nelson was mortally wounded aboard the Victory during the battle, and the ship later returned to Britain with his body.
